Arlberg Pass rail trip day 2

The day begins with some tram-spotting from the breakfast room of the hotel. Not only trams at ground level but also trams appearing out of the side of buildings heading up the hill.

Back at Zurich’s main station, I admire the archways and ceilings.

There’s plenty of comings and goings from the Swiss trains and plenty of time to catch the Zurich to Innsbruck 3 ½ hour direct service passing through magnificent scenery.

If pictures are worth a thousand words, then this post is best told in a series of photographs from out the window past lakes, alongside rivers and beside mountains.

Lake Zurich shortly after leaving the main station

If ever there was a journey when you should put away mobiles, tablets and all reading material in favour of just looking out the window, then this is surely it.

I certainly thought so although some fellow passengers spent the entire journey with their eyes focused on electronic devices and with headphones in without once glancing out the window – still, if the scenery is rationed, there’s all the more for me to feast my eyes upon.

Their loss, my gain.

The scenery is truly spectacular and picture-book Alpine.

The journey flew by and I wish it could have lasted longer.

This is one of the nicest scenery pictures from the journey:

In case, you’re wondering where it is along the route, the answer is everywhere … because it’s inside the toilets.

I arrived in Innsbruck flushed with excitement.
